LIVE 155 Affordable Housing

LIVE 155 Affordable Housing

Northampton, MA

LIVE 155 is a unique project that combines community, low-income housing and contemporary design to create a dynamic living environment right in the heart of Northampton, MA. The project includes 47 affordable housing units, 23 market rate units and 2,600 sq ft. of retail space. LIVE 155’s sense of community runs deep throughout the building, offering communal spaces for its residents to gather and a street-level retail space.

Combining old and new materials, LIVE 155’s street facing façade blends in with the character of downtown Northampton, while offering a colorful and contemporary design approach in the rear of the building for its residents. The spaces were meant to be sleek and playful - nod to the artistic community that Northampton fosters. Public art was integrated into the building exterior, main staircase, lobby and site facilities enclosure.

A key focus of the design and construction of this project was creating affordable housing that also provided outstanding energy efficiency. The project achieved this goal with a remarkably airtight envelope, high-performance windows, high-efficiency mechanical systems, LED lighting and a substantial rooftop PV array. The building is all-electric and free of fossil fuels with the exception of gas service provided to potential food service retail tenants.
