Allandale Park

Allandale Park

Chestnut Hill, MA

When this family hired LDa to help infuse warmth into their newly constructed home, it evolved into a multi-phase project that would transform many of their key living spaces. With three young children, the family was looking for ways to add richness and color using durable, kid-friendly materials. The initial phases added vibrant wallpaper to the dining room, primary bedroom, powder room, and playroom, with the children helping select the playful pattern that would adorn their space. For the dining room, LDa worked with the clients and Berkshires-based Piedmont Woodcraft to design the custom live edge English elm table featuring bowtie inlay details that add character while preventing it from splitting.

The most recent project in their home, following a redesign of the client’s downtown office space, was a kitchen overhaul. The original ornate cabinetry was replaced with a simpler, streamlined style that was extended to reach the ceiling. Variations in floor color caused by the new base cabinetry’s smaller footprint (due to new attractive leg detailing) were creatively mitigated using a decorative brass detailing around the cabinets’ perimeter. With functionality as the client’s primary goal, the island was enlarged to make better use of the space. The color scheme reflects the client’s desire for a kitchen that would look clean without feeling sterile or cold. Warmth is added to the predominantly white palette through the sophisticated, rich teal island, butcherblock countertop, and brass dome light fixtures. The quartz countertops feature a subtle blue and gold veining that adds a hint of character and ties back to the colors from the island and lighting.

In tandem with the kitchen renovation, the playroom windowseat was replaced to match the style of the new kitchen cabinetry. A custom bench cushion, playful throw pillows, and new reading lights complete the look in this fun, kid-focused space.
