Boston, MA

This renovation brings warmth and a cohesive look to a 5,200 square-foot office in downtown Boston. The reception area, which previously housed an underutilized  reception desk, was transformed into a warm and inviting sitting area for guests and employees. Opposite the elevators, new custom cerused-oak millwork is wrapped in a rich textured wallcovering and framed by open bookshelves. Comfortable yet sophisticated furnishings give the space an approachable yet professional office feel, while the oval kiln-fused glass chandelier contributes to its elegance.
The client sought a more unified look for five private offices while still giving team members the opportunity to customize their space. In response, LDa provided two furniture options for the offices—one with black oak components and chrome accents and the other with brushed brown oaks and satin brass accents—from which each team member could choose. In addition, the offices were updated with new lighting, area rugs, and wallcoverings. In the private offices and other areas throughout the space, a new vinyl wallcovering resembling horizontal shiplap offers a more contemporary take on the previous vertical bead-board paneling.
Elsewhere in the office, select updates make a big impact, such as new wallcoverings behind the shelves and in the tray ceiling of the conference room and closed storage in the kitchen and copy room. Adding a new wall and door creates an enclosed office for one of the assistants, and new carpet and furniture make for a comfortable mothers’ room.  A fun black-and-white Schumacher wallcovering enlivens the bathrooms, which also received new vanities, mirrors, lighting, and art.
